Shared environments and cumulative public burdens

Environment and Commons protects shared conditions of life and irreplaceable environmental evidence. It serves communities, public asset owners, restoration teams and custodians of protected areas. It looks across projects and generations so that a series of individually small permissions cannot conceal a large cumulative burden.

Baselines, alternatives and restoration duties

Teams assess environmental impacts, Earth biosphere programmes, space-environment effects, protected landscapes, restoration liability and commons agreements. Proposals disclose baseline uncertainty, interactions with other activities and the party responsible for remedy. Public monitoring retains adverse findings and revisions alongside the sponsor's preferred scenario.

The powers we hold and the powers we refer

The Commission does not replace Planetary Protection Authority independent contamination decisions or local democratic land stewardship. Environmental approval has a defined scope and cannot be quoted as blanket permission for extraction, transport or planetary engineering. Restoration funding and responsibility survive a sponsor change.

A case in practice

Illustrative case / ENV

Several operators propose individually limited works around a lunar settlement. The environmental review examines their combined dust, utility and transport burdens. A revised common mitigation plan is assessed publicly, with the maintenance and remedy owner named for each part rather than one vague promise of future restoration.
