Purpose and competence

Union Ombudsman evidence and source custody is maintained for Union Ombudsman. Its scope follows the office’s mandate: Investigates maladministration and gives citizens an accessible route to redress.

The office does not replace Union Court of Justice judicial review or guarantee the applicant's preferred substantive outcome. It can identify a competent remedy route and a systemic service failure. Complaints can be represented by an authorised advocate, with a protected channel where the ordinary operator is part of the alleged problem
